Rare animal species

At present, the Zoo Liberec takes care of more than 170 animal species, which is 1000 individuals. Some of the animals kept in the Zoo Liberec are very rare and are included on the list of endangered species. Approximately 300 animals are included in a national or international protection program. The employees of the Zoo Liberec are well-qualified and internationally renowned specialists, members of international animal protection organizations.

Chimpanzees, white tigers and takins

The zoo in Liberec boasts the largest group of chimpanzees in the Czech Republic, white tigers, nearly extinct Somali donkeys and rare eagles. The Zoo Liberec, besides one zoo in China and two zoos in Japan, is the only zoological garden where you can see the golden takin. The group of takins in Liberec is proud of five offsprings.

Tour around the zoo and other attractions

The tour around the Zoo Liberec is approximately 3.5 km long; asphalt roads allow access to wheelchairs and parents with little children in the pram. To go around the zoo you will need some 3 hours. A part of the zoo is a little restaurant and a children playground. Youngest visitors of the Zoo Liberec may enjoy a little train that follows a part of the tour around the zoo.

Attractions in the Zoo Liberec

Sea lion training and feeding – daily except Wednesday, 10.30 a.m. and 3 p.m. Elephant training – at good weather, 2 p.m. Penguin feeding – at good weather, 12.00 and 4 p.m. -only during the main season.
