The origins of the Zoo Barcelona date back to 1892, when a banker called Lluís Martí Codolar offered his animal collection to the city. Today it is one of the best zoos in all of Spain . Many of the animals live in open folds so visitors can touch them. From the mammal class you can see for example gorillas, the Bornean Orangutan, the chimpanzee, the African elephant, the lion, the leopard, the tiger, the panther, the buffalo, dolphins, pandas and many others. Besides mammals there are birds (pelicans, parrots, penguins...) , amphibians (frogs) and reptiles (the Aldabra giant tortoise, the anaconda...)
In the Zoo Barcelona there are many thematic animal enclosures, where the most natural conditions possible are being created for the animals. Visitors can head to the enclosures with dolphins, reptiles, gorillas, birds, primates, lizards, etc. The most popular place in the zoo is probably the Delfinarium. The audience can watch acrobatic stunts of these amazing mammals and with a bit of luck also participate in the performance. In the gorilla enclosure tourists can see the white gorilla called "Snowflake", the symbol of the Zoo Barcelona and the Barcelona city.
