Žitkovac

Žitkovac is a town in the valley of the river South Moravia. It lies in the southeastern part of Serbia , about 30 km northwest of Niš . Žitkovac is known mainly due to the archaeological findings from the Neolithic period. In 1985, Neolithic funerary urns were here. Later in 1994, archaeologists h discovered a necropolis covering an area of 80 hectares. Fragments of Neolithic pottery and bronze objects have been found there as well. Most of the exhibits are in a museum in the town of Aleksinac . Nowadays is Žitkovac one of the most populated places in the area. Due to a geography linkage with the communities of Prcilovica and Moravac, about 7000 people live in the locality.
