Zaporozhye Cossack Museum

Another section is focused on events from the times of the Russian - Turkish war in the 18th century. One of the displays depicts a night attack of Soviet troops on Zaporozhye on 14 October 1943. The exhibition includes four special displays. .

Zaporizhia´s Social and Military System

Another important milestone in the history of the island was the "Zaporizhia's sic". It was a social and military system of the 15th century, established by the Cossacks on the Dnieper River. The Chortycja Island used to be the main center of this defense and administration system. This Cossack republic was an effective political, social, administrative and military institution which protected the Cossacks from attacks of enemies for a long time. The most dangerous enemies at that time were the Tatars, the Turks, and the Lithuanians.
