Zagreb is the capital city of Croatia .It is located in the western part of the country,under the hill Medvednica.The first written evidence of the city Zagreb dates back to the year 1094.In the year 1525 it got under the influence of The Habsburg Emire,later under the influence of Hungary.In the 18th and 19th centuries the city became a important political and cultural center.Zagreb became the capital of Croatia again when socialistic Yugoslavia was created.Todays city was created by uniting Zagreb,Kaptol,Gradec and Donji Grad.The part of Donji Grad with rich historical architecture,palaces,churches and old alleyways is the oldest part of the city.In this part of the city lies one of the most famous temples,gothic church of saint Mark with the symbols of Zagreb,Croatia,Dalmatia and Slavonia on the roof.In younger part of the city Donji Grad you will find number of museums and restaurants.It is a important cultural and social centre.Art museum,Strossmayers gallery,Art-Industrial museum and Mimara museum belong amongst the most interesting ones.You will find pieces from significant artists like Raphael,Rubens,Delacroix,Renoir,Manet or Degas.Both parts are connected by Stone gate from 13th century- Kamenita Vrata.New Zagreb, youngest part of the city revels with modern buildings and housing developments.The whole new Zagreb thanks to its huge grassy areas gives a very pleasant impression even though there are lots of flats here.Centre of Zagreb and the busiest place is plaza Trg Bana Josip Jelačića.Zagreb parks and gardens offer pleasant rest and relaxation.The most famous park is the park Maksimir.It is the first public park in Europe ,first founded in french style,which was then finished as a english park with plains,water reseirvors and small zoo.Almost million metropolis of Croatia republic Zagreb is yet to be changed by tourism.Public transport is provided by large tram and bus netwrok.Zagreb is a important transportation hub between Adriatic sea and central europe.Around the city Zagreb lies a bypass and highway on Rijeka,Ljubljana,Maribor,Varazdin and Belgrade
