The history of this street stretches back to the 17th century when the northern border of New Amsterdam settlement was here. Later a 4 m high wall from wood and clay was built as defence. By the end of the 18th century local traders began to gather under a big buttonwood tree at this place. These men formed an association by signing the Buttonwood Agreement in 1792. This was the beginning of the New York Stock Exchange.
Wall Street is famous for being a place of the New York Stock Exchange. Also important companies like YSE, NASDAQ, AMEX, NYMEX a NYBOT reside here, as well as many other American institutions.
