Waipoua Forest is a unique forest park in New Zealand
. It is located in the northwestern part of the North Island, about 31 km from the town of Kaikohe
. The uniqueness of Waipoua Forest lies in the giant southern kauri trees, which have been growing here for thousand years. There are five trees which are over 1,000 years old. The oldest tree of Waipoua Forest is more than 1500 years old, and it is called Tane Mahuta - the Lord of the Forest. Tane Mahuta is 51 m high, its perimeter is 14 m, and its volume is 244.5 cubic metres. It takes five minutes from the parking lot to get to the oldest and largest tree in Waipoua Forest. In addition to these majestic trees, there are about 300 different species of trees, palms and ferns. Waipoua Forest is a very popular tourist destination, ideal for relaxing walks in beautiful nature.
