Vransko Lake on Cres Island is the only reservoir of drinkable water for the islands of Cres and the neighbouring Lošinj . It has an area of 6 km2 and a depth of up to 70 m. The lake is fed especially with the water from subterranean springs and rain drops. Vransko Lake on Cres Island is often confused with the other Vransko Lake on Cres Island in North Dalmatia , close to Zadar .
Vransko Lake on Cres Island is strictly protected and swimming is forbidden there. But it is a rewarding destination for the visitors of the Cres Island . Sweet-water fish live in the limpid water and there is an ornithological reservation nearby (one of the two that can be found on the island) , which serves as the habitat of the Griffon Vulture. Vransko Lake on Cres Island is surrounded by hills, which offer a beautiful view upon the lake as well as the entire Cres Island .
