The origin of the Visocica Pyramid is an object of fierce debates among public and scientists alike. In 2005, amateur archaeologist Semir Osmanagić stated that the Visocica Pyramid is indeed a pyramid made by man, and as a matter of fact the greatest pyramid built by man ever.   more »

His statement found many supporters and at least as many critiques, who claim that the pyramid is of natural origin. Research is still in progress - even UNESCO experts are going to join the research. Regardless the future research outcomes, the Visocica Pyramid is nowadays a very popular tourist destination anyway..

About Visocica Pyramid

The Visocica Pyramid is 213meters high and it is situated above the town of Visoko . The peak of the hill or pyramid - indeed -does not look like as the work of the nature due to its regular geometric shape. Semir Osmanagić states that the Visocica Pyramid is a Pyramid of the Sun, and that two nearby hills, are also pyramids (dedicated to the moon and to the dragon) . The question is how old the assumptive pyramids are. Semir Osmanagić claims, according to his last research, that the pyramids were constructed by ancient Illyrian somewhere between 12, 000 BC to 500 BC. His opponents claim that local inhabitants were hunters and gatherers and they had only primitive tools, and therefore they were unable to build such a monumental construction - and so the pyramids are unique and rare but still only a natural phenomenon.
