Vidin , also spelled Widdin, is a historic city and a port on the southern bank of the Danube River in the northwestern part of Bulgaria , not far from the border with Serbia and Romania. It is the capital of the Vidin province. At present, it has a population of approximately 67 thousand. About Vidin
The locality was inhabited in the 1st century already so the city has a lot to offer. Probably the most significant monuments in Vidin are two well-preserved medieval forts - Baba Vida and Kaleto. There are several old Orthodox churches in the town, for example, St. Pantaleimon and St. Petka (both were built in the 17th century) ; and St Greatmartyr Dimitar (Dimitrius) from the 19th century) . The synagogue was built in 1894. Tourist usually admire the mosque and the library, the Kazarma (1798) , and valuable Renaissance houses.
