Vincent van Gogh was one of the most important painters of Post-Impressionism. He was born in the Netherlands in 1853. Later he also lived in Great Britain , Belgium and France . In his works of art he used bright colours applied in thick layers on the canvas. As he aged, he delevoped a mental illness so he was placed in a mental institution. He ended his life with a suicide in 1890.
Van Gogh Museum displays more than 200 paintings, 500 drawings, watercolours as well as Japanese wood engravings. Naturally, you can see the most well-known works of art, such as Sunflowers, Cypresses, Bedroom in Arles and the portraits of Dr. Gachet and Père Tanguy there. Van Gogh Museum was opened in an architectonically interesting building in 1973. Today there is the largest collection of paintings and drawings of Van Gogh in the world.
Van Gogh Museum is visited by more than 1 million people every year. The museum is open every day from 10:00 to 18:00. On Fridays it is open till 22:00. The admission fee for adults is 14 EUR and children up to 17 years of age have free entry.
