Uzungöl is a natural dam on the river Haldizen, in northeastern Turkey
. Thanks to the beautiful countryside, it is a popular tourist destination. Uzungöl is located in the Trabzon Province, about 90 km from the city of Trabzon
, 70 km southeast of Rize. On its bank stands the village Uzungöl with traditional wooden houses, as well as modern hotels, restaurants and recreational facilities. The valley is dominated by the two minarets of the mosque standing on the bank of the lake. The lake is about 1 km long, 0.5 km wide and its average depth is 15 m. Uzungöl lies at an altitude of 1090 m, in the middle of a valley surrounded by mountains. These mountains are mostly covered with mixed forests. In the mountains, there are many mountain lakes and streams. Due to heavy rainfall, the surrounding of Uzungöl is one of the greenest areas of Turkey
. More than 60 local plant species are endemic. The area around Uzungöl is a popular destination for hiking and climbing.
