History
Trento, founded by scholar Plinius, was a Roman colony. Between 1545 and 1563 the city was controlled by the ecumenic council of Trento. After 1814 it became a part of Austria but in 1918 it was annexed to Italy. In 1966 the city of Trento suffered a lot of damage from extensive floods. Sightseeing and places of interest
Trento is attractive for visitors due to its well-preserved medieval and Renaissance historical centre. You can visit, for example, Doumo St. Vigilius, the ancient cathedral built in the Roman-Gothic style at the turn of the 12/13th century. Other significant historical monuments are the square called Piazza Duomo, church Santa Maria Maggiore (1520) , Castello del Buonconsiglio (now used as the museum of history) , and also church San Pietro (12th century) , church Sant´Apollinare (13th century) or church San Lorenzo (12th century) . The railway station in Trento is located on the main raiway route that connects Italy with . There is a good connection by train from Munich and from Innsbruck .
