To commemorate these first inhabitants of Tossa, a memorial of a Roman warrior has been erected at the main esplanade. The municipality played a key role during the Punic Wars as it became the military base of Augustus army. The dominant feature of Tossa de Mar is the ruin of a Gothic castle.
