Top of the Rock is placed on top of the 70 meter GE Building skyscraper. The skyscraper is 259 m tall and it is the eighth highest building in New York City . It is the headquarters of the NBC TV network. The terrace was opened to public for the first time in 1933. Top of the Rock was originally designed in the style of an ocean liner and was supposed to be equipped with chaise longues and imitations of liner chimneys.
The current Top of the Rock scenic platform has three levels – the first level is indoors, on the second there is a viewpoint behind a glass screen and the top level is open and offers a splendid view. Top of the Rock is a bit far from the city center so the visitors have an exceptional view upon Manhattan , Central Park as well as the Empire State Building .
