Thien Mu Pagoda is the highest pagoda in
Vietnam . It is located in the central part of the country, in the region of Bắc Trung Bộ, about 3 km west from the city of
Hue . The seven-storey building was founded in 1601, on the command of Nguyễn Hoàng. In 1665 the originally simple building was expanded and repaired. Gradually, a triple gate, various small temples, a bell tower, the towers, a meditation hall and the residential buildings were added. Inside the temple is a marble statue of a turtle symbolizing longevity. The statue of Gautama Buddha stands in the main hall. Nowadays, Thien Mu Pagoda is a cultic place for the Vietnamese, and there is even a folk rhyme about it.
