Thebes is the Greek name for an ancient site of Waset in Egypt. It is located in the central part of the country, on the eastern bank of the Nile, approximately 10 km from Luxor
. Thebes was founded around 3200 before Christ. The ancient town of Thebes was in the ancient times sacrificed to Amen. During the period of the Middle and New Kingdom of Egypt Thebes was the royal residence. The Karnak Temple Complex (Karnak) - a vast conglomeration of ruined temples, chapels, pylons and other buildings in Karnak and Luxor
- are truly unique and breathtaking. The site is also known for world-famous necropoles in the Valley of the Kings. Thebes has been the UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1973.
