The Dhaka Zoo is the biggest zoo in Bangladesh
. It is situated in the capital of Dhaka
, in Mirpur, sometimes it is called The Mirpur Zoo as well.
Attractions in the Zoo
The Dhaka Zoo was opened on June 23, 1974. There are more than 2150 animals of 191 species. The zoo spans over an area of 75 hectars and there are two lakes. The Bengal Tiger is the zoo's highlight and it is a part of a local specialised breeding program. The zoo is very succesful in tiger breeding. Among other animals in The Dhaka Zoo there are Saltwater crocodiles, impalas, emus, tapirs and American black bears.
The Dhaka Zoo is annualy visited by more than 3 million people. The zoo is open daily all year long except for Sundays.
