After the so-called Chinese gooseberry was brought into Te Puke, its trading first began on the domestic and later on the international market under the name kiwi. The first orchard in Te Puke was established in the mid-thirties, and by the present days the city has become the metropolis of this fruit. A gardening park called Kiwifruit Country (Kiwi 360) was established 6 km southeast of Te Puke. Here you can walk in the kiwi orchard and become acquainted with its cultivation. The entrance to the Kiwifruit Country is marked by a huge kiwi, and inside you can take a ride on the train with kiwi-shaped cars. South of Te Puke is a large farm, where you can see sheep, pigs, sixty years old eels, and also avocado and kiwi trees. The next popular activity is the boat ride on the Kaituna River, which leads you through the natural beauties of the bush..
