Tarragona is an important historic city in Spain . It is situated in Catalonia, on the coast Costa Dorada. It has about 155,000 inhabitants nowadays. Tarragona attracts visitors mainly by its monuments. The city has been listed on the World Heritage List UNESCO since 2000. It is also a candidate city of the European Capital of Culture 2016.

Festivals
Tarragona hosts a number of various celebrations and festivals throughout the year. The most famous celebration is the St Tekla Feast, which takes place from September 15th- 24th. It has been celebrated since 1321! Other events include the local carnival, the international festival of fireworks, the festival of Dixieland music and the historical festival Tarraco Viva, which take place from May 10th- 20th and you may see groups performing historical swordsmanship and many historical figures dating since the Roman reign there.
