Superior Lake is the largest of the five Great Lakes of North America. It is bounded to the north by the Canadian province of Ontario and the U.S. state of Minnesota, and to the south by the U.S. states of Wisconsin and Michigan. Superior Lake is the largest freshwater lake in the world by surface area (82,413 km2) . It has a maximum length of 563 km and maximum depth of 406 metres. Every year, storms on Superior Lake form up to nine metre high waves. The lake is fed by over 200 rivers. The largest include the Nipigon River, the St. Louis River, the Pigeon River, the Pic River, the White River etc. Superior Lake drains into Lake Huron by the St. Marys River. The lake is used for water transport - industrial, passenger and holiday boats are operated.
