Tourist information and destination rating

Category: Cities, Local time: 17:43:49, Official WWW website:

Stoke-on-Trent is a group of six towns - Longton, Fenton, Hanley, Burslem, Tunstall and Stoke-on-Trent, also known as the Potteries or the "Five Towns". This conurbation is situated in England (Stoke-on-Trent), approx. 50 km (31mi) from Chester. The region of Staffordshire has been a leading centre for mass-produced ceramics so no wonder that the most significant sites in this area are closely connected with this industry. The Gladstone Pottery Museum is a complex of workshops, kilns and galleries with demonstrations of traditional pottery techniques, the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery in Hanley has historic and modern ceramics, the Etruria Industrial Museum displays the last surviving steam-powered pottery mill, etc. Of course there is the Potteries Shopping Centre. The region is known as a great destination for golf players as well as for outdoor people who use it as the base for hikes to Peak District National Park.
