Stella Artois Brewery was established in 1366. AT that time its name was De Horn Brewery. It has been one of key enterprises in Leuven since the 16th century. The name "Artois" was first associated with the brewery in 1717, when Sebastian Artois became the chief brewer. Several members of this family - several generations, actually - would keep the family tradition and managed the business. Thus the valuable experience in beer brewing went from father to son several times. Along with the name Artois, another name - Horn - is used as well. The word "Stella" comes from the Latin. It means "famous" or "star". It was first used with the Stella Artois Brewery in the annual Christmas beer of the year 1926. Over the years, "the Star Beer" has become widely known worldwide.
The Stella Artois Brewery is open for visitors from Tuesday to Saturday. The first tour begins at 9 a.m., last tour is scheduled at 7:30 p.m. Allow an hour for the tour whose part is beer tasting. Visitors aged under 18 can only taste non-alcoholic drinks. Admission: € 6 (person aged 12+) .
