The construction of the Solina Lake was initiated in 1961 and finished in 1968. The Solina river damn has a surface area of 22 km2. The deepest point is 60 m below the water level. Its total water capacity is one the greatest in the country - 472 milion m3.
The dam is about 82 m tall, it is the highest dam in all of Poland. It is 664 m in length. Below the dam is a hydroelectric power plant with the capacity of 200 MW. The Solina Lake is a popular tourist destination. Its clear water, its depth and the mountainous environment make it an exceptionally attractive place.
The Solina Lake is popular among fishermen because there are so many kinds of fish there (mostly esox, sander and abramis) . Sailing lovers like to come there to participate in regularly-held sailing races. But the lake is also suitable for canoeing and other water sports.
