The Slapy Reservoir is a dam on the river Vltava. It lies below the capital city Prague , and it is a part of the extensive Vltava Cascades in the Czech Republic . The dam was filled in 1954. The Slapy Reservoir is 70 m high, 360 m long, its greatest depth is 53 m, while the average depth is 20.7 m. The main purpose of the dam is to regulate the flow of water on the river Vltava to prevent flooding. The other functions include production of energy and recreation. Several recreational facilities have been built around the reservoir. Water transport and ferries operate here. The Slapy Reservoir is also sought-after by lovers of yachting, even though sailing is not so easy because of the wind..
