Ski Resort Val d´Herens is valued by skiers who prefer calm atmosphere with picturesque natural sceneries. Contrary to other skiing resorts in Switzerland, full of luxurious cableways and ski-lifts, the technologies in this locality seems to be a bit behind. The resort Ski Resort Val d´Herens is spread among scattered farms. Tourism is not the main source of income for local inhabitants so they do not invest much in new technical equipment. The result is only one chair-lift in Evoléne. Skiing slopes in the area of Ski Resort Val d´Herens are at 1,407 m through 3,000 above sea. Due to the altitude the resort is able to offer excellent snow conditions around the season. Most of the ski slopes in the area of Ski Resort Val d´Herens are marked in red and blue. Altogether, there are 30 km of blue ones and 64 km of red ones. There are only 13 km of the most difficult, black pistes. Ski alpinists can enjoy the locality of Evoléne. Free ride fans are offered un-maintained terrains in Mandelon.
The skiing season in Ski Resort Val d´Herens begins on 23 December and ends on 2 April. Altogether 17 ski-lifts are available, total capacity 11,000 persons per hour. Cross-country skiers can enjoy 20 km of cross-country skiing trails around Arolle; Evoléne offers another 12 kms. Prices are lower than in other Swiss resorts. A day skipass costs 48 CHF, a week skipass is 246 CHF. Children aged 6 – 16 pay 41 CHF for a day skipass or 209 CHF for the week, respectively.
