Sistine Chapel (Cappella Sistina) is a Christian chapel and the site of Papal conclave (the process through which a new Pope is selected) . It is located in Vatican, in the Apostolic Palace Apostolic Palace , which is the official residence of the Pope.

About Sistine Chapel

Sistine Chapel is distinctive by impressive decorations which had been created by best Renaissance artists. At this place, you can admirethe works of art created by Michelangelo, Bernini, Ghirlandaio, Perugino, Raphael and Botticelli. The frescoes and the ceiling paintings are great examples of the art of painting. The name Sistine Chapel comes after Pope Sixtus IV, who restored the original dilapidated chapel and had it renovated and decorated. The person responsible for the reconstruction was probably Baccio Pontelli. Originally, the chapel was decorated with a series of frescoes from the life of Moses and Christ. Later, under the patronage of Pope Julius II, Sistine Chapel was decorated by works of art created by Michelangelo Buonarroti.
