The Simien National Park is a protected area in Ethiopia
. It lies in the northern part of the country, in the Amhara Region. The Simien Mountains with Ras Dashen
(4450 m) - the highest peak of Ethiopia
, are also part of the area. The Simien National Park was founded in 1969. An extensive erosion in the area created remarkable natural formations over the ages. The land is typical of its rugged mountain peaks, vast valleys and deep gorges. We can see here a number of rare animal and plant species. The landscape is a home to the rare species of baboons, Simien fox and endemic representatives of mountain goats. The Simien National Park was proclaimed a UNESCO
World Heritage Site in 1978.
