The Shio-Mgvime Monastery was built in a deep basin surrounded by rocks from three sides. The oldest building of this monastery is the Temple of St. John the Baptist. It is a small temple with a dome from the 6th century. It was carved into the rock, where St. Shio let himself brick in before his death. In the monastery, we can see a well known as the Monk's Tear.
