Raining season here is from March to May and from November to December. The countryside is created by lava plain with reliefs of extinct volcanos covered by savana and acacia trees. Unique gallery forests are bordering rivers in the western part of the park. Serengeti area had been almost intact until the end of 19th century when Europeans disrupted this country by frequent hunting activities. However, in 1921 the Brits declared preserved area here for the first time, while Serengeti National Park was declared in 1951. Almost all African mammals live here: lions, giraffes, leopards, zebras, cheetah, gnu, elephants, rhinos and hyenas. Serengeti National Park was listed in the UNESCO World Cultural Heritage List in 1981. From Dar-es-Salaam town you can get here via Arusha in approximately 13 hours long coach trip. Or you can take train from Arusha and in 20 hours you are directly at the park border..
