Scotland has fertile land in the south, near the border to England (Borders), while some of Scottish islands in the north are not very far from the north polar circle. There is no such variety of landscapes anywhere in Britain. North of Edinburgh, the terrain begins rising and you will trip over archeological treasures at every corner. Anyway, the oldest monuments are found in the distant northwest. The most valuable attractions in Scotland are, for example, the wild landscapes of Kilt Rock on the coast of Skye, the Trossachs National Park at the borderline between the Highlands and Lowlands, the Cairngorm Mountains with great variety of animal species and, of course, the ancient Edinburgh and great many well-preserved medieval castles, e.g. Culzean Castle in the Firth of Clyde. Scotland is an ideal destination for sightseeing, hiking, cycling, fishing and golf - as well as for exploring unique cultural and sport traditions. But do not confuse kilts with skirts or "Scottish" with "English"...
