Rysy is the highest peak of Poland
. The mountain lies in the High Tatras
, on the Slovak
border. The climb to Rysy is one of the most popular hikes in the High Tatras
The climb to the summit starts at Štrbské pleso , continues on the path called the Tatranská magistrála to Popradské pleso , and then up to the valley Mengusovska dolina. The hiking trail is marked red. The climb to Rysy is considered technically rather difficult, therefore it is recommended especially for people with a knowledge of movement on the rocks and of walking in a demanding terrain. Rysy has three peaks - medium (2 503 m) , north-west (2 499 m) , and south-east (2 473 m) . The first person to reach the main summit was Ede Blásy with his guide Ján Ruman-Driečny on July 30, 1840.
