Rock Castle Sloup is the best preserved rock castle in Czech Republic . It stands on 35 m high rock in the valley of the Dobranovsky creek in a village Sloup v Čechách . Rock Castle Sloup was built in the late 13th century and it was owned by the family of Berka of Duba. In 1445 the castle was conquered and burned down by the army of Lusatian Six-township. more »

Armoury, cloister and rock chapel
The most popular features of the Rock Castle Sloup are the rock chapel and terraces. Scenic rock terraces are 100 m long and 60 meters wide and offer a great view on close surroundings. Another interesting feature in the castle is the armoury, which has walls decorated with reliefs. There are also the cloister, the rock church and a dungeon in the castle areal. . In the castle premises a museum exhibition devoted to hermits in northern Bohemia was installed. In 1690 allowed a construction of Baroque hermitage in the Rock Castle Sloup. Several rooms and corridors carved in the rock have been preserved from the original castle and hermitage up to the present time. There is a statue of a hermit on one of the castle's terraces - the hermit is looking through a telescope toward the Samuel´s cave. It is a reminder of a hermit called Samuel Görner, who made the cave in 1708 and lived there until 1735.After that he became the fifth hermit in a row living in the Rock Castle Sloup.Opening hours and entrance fee
Rock Castle Sloup is open in April and October at weekends 9:00 - 16:00, from May to August 9:00 - 17:00 daily, and in September daily 9:00 - 17:00 except Mondays. There is a possibility to visit the Rock Castle Sloup outside those hours, but the castle warden must agree with it and the entrance fee is higher.Tourist information and destination rating
