Ras Dashen is the highest mountain in Ethiopia . It is located in the north of the country, in the Amhara region, in the Simien Mountains, which is s part of the Simien National Park . The Ras Dashen Mountain reaches an altitude 4550 m. The first climb to the top was recorded by Europeans in 1841. The slopes of the mountain are rich in rare animal and vegetable species. There is a an old fortress at the altitude of 4300 m.
