Pyramids of Nuri are significant ancient monuments and the UNESCO Site in Sudan . They are located on the southern side of the Nile, about 15 km north of Sanam and 10 km of Gebel Barkal . The archaeological site Nuri comprises tombs of 21 kings. The pyramids are smaller than those in Egypt and they are often severely damaged. The Pyramids of Nuri are 20m through 30 meters high. They were built of blocks of local red sandstone. The first pyramid, the largest one, is named Taharqa. It is 50 meters high. The last pyramid was built in 308 BC. The Pyramids of Nuri site, along with five more archaeological sites were inscribed in the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2003.
