The ancient city of Přerov is situated in the Olomouc region in the Czech Republic . The Přerov territory was settled already in prehistoric times, which can be demonstrated by the presence of a world-famous archaeological deposit Přerov Předmostí. An educational trail has been made in its proximity. The city is intersected by the Bečva river and it has a population of about 46,000 (2011) inhabitants.

About the City

The Přerov Upper Square (Horní náměstí) , which became the city culture heritage zone in 1992, offers tourists a unique view upon the well-preserved Renaissance bourgeois houses. The most valued is house no. 31, the so-called Korvínský house with a well-preserved Renaissance portal from 1570. The city also has beautiful ramparts and a chateau renovated in the Renaissance style, which hosts the Comenius Museum. The museum displays various exhibits – from archaeological finds to an exposition on a period school classroom from the times of John Amos Comenius, who had practised there for some time. To lovers of much less recent past the city offers an educational trail through Předmostí all the way to prehistoric times. You can follow the track of mammoths and their hunters along an easy 8 km trail. On your way you will meet a statue of a baby mammoth Tom and you can also visit the Small School Museum of Mammoth Hunters – constructed and operated by the pupils and the teachers of the local primary school.
Přerov is traditionally the host of the Czechoslovak Jazz Festival with international participants, which was started in 1966.

A popular place among tourists is the city park Michalov and the adjoining lagoons, which offer many options of sports activities - for example the open air pool and the bicross track. In the proximity of Přerov is situated a nature reserve Žebračka, protecting the meadow forests in the Bečva river valley.
