The temple was founded in 850, on the order of the King Rakai Pikatan. Prambanan consists of 3 parts: the outer walls marked the area supposedly used as a sacred park; the middle section consists of 224 identical shrines; the centre of the complex Prambanan is made up of three main temples dedicated to Hindu deities: Shiva, Vishnu and Brahma.
