The Plumlov Reservoir is one of the oldest dams in the Czech Republic
. It is located near the town of Prostějov
in Central Moravia. The Plumlov Reservoir is situated on the river Hloučela. The majestic Plumlov Castle proudly towers above the dam. The construction of the dam started in 1913, and it was completed in 1932. The reason for building this reservoir was the fluctuation of the flow of the river Hloučela. The function of the dam is to reduce the risk of floods and to ensure a minimum flow in summer. The further functions are: to provide temporary fresh water supply for the town Prostějov
, to produce electric energy, and it is also used for recreation and fishing. The Plumlov Reservoir covers an area of 62 ha. There are beaches, camp sites, refreshments, boat rentals and other facilities on each side of the dam. Unfortunately, in recent years the occurrence of cyanobacteria rose and the quality of the water is very low.
