The Ploučnice Gap is an artificial water tunnel on the river Ploučnice. It is located between the villages Stráž pod Ralskem and Noviny pod Ralskem , in the Czech Republic . It is a place where the river flows into a gorge between the steep sandstone walls. The Ploučnice Gap is composed of two artificial tunnels. more »

They were cut by hand in the 16th century, in order to create a water reservoir to drive the iron-mill. The river basin was divided by a dam, and the water was drained into a gorge where a tunnel was cut. However, the reservoir was never filled, and the water was driven to the iron-mill by a mill-race from Stráž pod Ralskem . Nowadays, the Ploučnice Gap is used mostly by the lovers of water sports. It was declared a Cultural Monument in 1997..
