Planica is known for ski jumps. The first ski jump was built around 1930. The most famous ski jump, nicknamed the "mammoth" Letalnica was built in 1969. It is considered as the ski jump where world records can be beaten. The current record is held by a Norwegian Bjørn Einar Romøren, who flew to the mark of 239 meters in 2005. Every year, the Planica Ski Jump World Championship attracts more than 50,000 spectators.
Besides the ski jumps, visitors usually plan at least one trip into this area. The most popular destination is the end of the valley Planica - the Jalovec peak ( 2645 m above sea) . In summer, the valley is recommendable for hiking and cycling.
