Piedra del Penol is a 220 m high rock block of quartzite, feldspar and mica. Luis Eduardo Villegas López was the first person to climb Piedra del Penol in 1954. Today, you can get to the top of the monolith on foot, climbing 649 stairs carved into the rock. At the top of Piedra del Penol, there is a wonderful look-out with a beautiful view of the surroundings, especially of the local dam. Below the monolith are restaurants and a parking place.
