Perlan means "pearl" in translation. From the birds' perspective, the building resembles more a flower than a pearl. Each petal is a storage of hot water and there is a big spouting geyser right in the middle of the building. The Perlan Reykjavik is built upon 6 barrels containing hot geothermal water. The globular building was constructed in 1991 and can boast 1176 windows.
There are many shops on the fourth floor of the building. Directly below the dome, there is a unique restaurant that offers an unforgettable view of the sky. You will also find a museum dedicated to Icelandic sagas and lifestyle in the complex. The Perlan Reykjavik includes various exhibits, e.g. the winter garden, where many concerts regularly take place. You will get a breathtaking view of the city and the surroundings from the view-terrace.
