Pergamon Museum

The present museum is divided in three parts – the antiquity collection, the Middle East Museum and the museum of Islamic art. In the museum, you will see numerous artefacts that had been excavated mainly in the region of the Middle East - and there is controversy over the legitimacy of the acquisition of the exhibits. Every year, about one million of visitors come to see and admire the museum collections. In 2006, the Pergamon Museum was the most visited museum in Germany..

Expositions

The Pergamon Museum is one of the most frequently visited art museums in Germany. The most valuable artefacts are: the Gate of Miletus (120 A.D.) , the monumental Pergamon Altar from the first half of the 2nd century B.C., the Ishtar Gate (the eight gate in Babylon, 575 B.C.) , and the part of the Mshatta facade (residential palace Qasr Mshatta, 8th century) .

Practical information

The Pergamon Museum is open around the year, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., on Thursday to 10 p.m. Admission: €10 (adults) and €5 (children) .
