Pektusan is a mountain in the North Korea . It is situated on the border between China and North Korea. It it 2744 m high and it is the highest mountain in Korea and Manchuria.

About Pektusan

the word Pektusan means the "Permanently White Mountain". The Pektusan is a strato volcano. Its caldera comprises a volcanic lake called Heaven Lake, and the slopes of the mountain are the source of the rivers Ja-lu and Tumen, the border between China and North Korea. Both the Koreans and the Manchurians consider the mountain Pektusan as their birthplace and cradle of nation. The North Korean regime presents the mountain as the birthplace of Kim Jong-Il.
