Pau is a city in the southwestern France . It is located in the department of Pyrénées-Atlantiques, 100km from the Atlantic Ocean, 50km from the Pyrenees and the Spanish border.

About Pau

The first mention of the city dates back to the 11th century AD. The most important monuments are the Château de Pau from the 12th century, and the Beaumont Palace from the late 19th century. Other important monuments are the church of St. Martin built in neo-Gothic style, the church Notre-Dame, and the church of St. Jacques. In 1901, the first Grand Prix race took place in the town Pau. The local track is leads through the city streets. Since 1999 the town Pau is the venue for the Formula 3000 race. Pau is the residential place to the French army - Ecole des troupes aéroportées. The city Pau currently has a population of over 70 thousand.
