The Nové Mlýny Reservoir is a waterworks and a reservoir with three dams located in South Moravia, in the area of the Pálava Hills, in the Czech Republic . The reservoir is divided into the upper Mušov, the middle Věstonice and the Nové Mlýny Reservoir. The Mušov Reservoir is intended for recreation, the Věstonice Reservoir is a Nature Reserve focused on bird nesting, and the Nové Mlýny Reservoir serves for power production, fishing and recreation. more »

The Nové Mlýny Reservoir was built in the 1970s to prevent annual flooding, while helping to improve the irrigation in the region. Several villages had to be flooded, at the same time the surrounding environment and the floodplain forests were destroyed. In the 1990s there was a decrease in the water level by 85 cm, which led to the gradual creation of islands in the middle of the reservoir. Nowadays, the floodplain forests are being restored on these islands and birds are nesting here again..
