The North Holland Dune Reserve comprises a long belt of sand dunes, forests and heather moor. It is stretched from Bergen aan Zee to the North Sea Canal. It belongs among largest nature reserves in the Netherlands. The preserve area occupies approximately 7000 hectares, it is 20 km long and 2.5 km wide. A significant part of drinking water designed for the region of the northern Netherlands comes from this natural reserve area.
The North Holland Dune Reserve is a very popular tourist destination. The region is recommendable for hiking and biking as there are marked trails throughout the preserve. The are is frequently visited by lots of tourists. There is a wide selection of accommodation facilities, including campsites.
