About the village

Nikkaluokta is a small village which is frequently visited, so it is prepared for tourists very well - there is a hotel and a restaurant and an air base for helicopters (in summer) . Another option for accommodation is small cabins. The most important building in the village Nikkaluokta is a beautiful, red-painted wooden church. There are many hiking and skiing trails in the area around Nikkaluokta. Tourist often come to observe the aurora.

Kebnekaise

Nikkaluokta is an ideal base for climbing of the highest mountain in Sweden . The trail is 19 km long and it will get you to the mountain hut STF Fjällstation Kebnekaise at the foot of Kebnekaise . You can hike there, or you can get there by helicopter which takes off the village Nikkaluokta. The hike lasts eight to nine hours. There are two routes. The first, leading to the East Glacier and through Björling, is rather challenging, and it is recommended for experienced hikers. Kungsleden

The most popular trail in this region, directed around Kebnekaise , is called the Kungsleden ("the Royal Way") . It is over 500 km long. It leads from Abisko to Hemavan, and it is very well marked. The Kungsleden trail is the busiest tourist trail in the country, and during the summer months you can meet there many tourists. The least busy part is located between Jäkkvik and Adolfström. On the way, there are Kungsleden lodges. The terrain is not very difficult.
