The New York Aquarium is the oldest continuously working aquarium in the United States of America
. It is also the only sea aquarium in New York
. The New York Aquarium is located on the Coney Island, in Brooklyn, on Surf Avenue & W. 8th Street.
The aquarium first opened to public in 1896 with only 150 exhibits. Today, the New York Aquarium presents over 8,000 sea animals of more than 350 species. The animals live in conditions that copy the natural habitats of their species. The New York Aquarium is dedicated to education and protection and research of sea animals. There are various educational programs available to visitors. Apart from the aquariums with the exhibited animals, such as medusas, sharks and rays, there is also a "contact swimming pool", or a 4D cinema that creates the impression of swimming with seals and dolphins. The main attraction of the New York Aquarium is the aquatheater with a seal show.
