The New City Hall Ostrava is one of the most famous buildings in the city of Ostrava . This monumental building stands on the Prokeš Square, on the banks of the Ostravice River. The construction works started in 1925 and finished in 1930. The New City Hall Ostrava was opened in honor of the rise of the Czechoslovak Republic on 28 October 1930. Not only the building itself is impressive, but also its interior is winning. Inside the New City Hall Ostrava, we will find for example cut glass crystal chandeliers, glass show cases presenting the coats of arms of the city, its districts, and the Moravian-Silesian Region. In the lobby of the city hall is a gallery with a bust of Jan Prokeš, the first mayor of Ostrava after 1918. The New City Hall Ostrava is the seat of the municipality, it is also a home to the Information Centre and a restaurant. A glass lookout-tower rises above the building of the New City Hall Ostrava. The tower is 85.6 m high, and there is a terrace at the height of 73 m. It offers a unique bird's eye view of Ostrava and its surroundings. In case of good weather, we can see the peaks of the nearby Beskyds, the Poodří Protected Landscape Area, the Polish border region, and even the Jeseníky Mountains including the highest peak of Moravia - Praděd ..
